Race Report
A gorgeous course that was well spaced at the start and then transitioned to single tracks. A couple very steep uphill climbs with technical downhills to follow. This was my first trail running race and I AM HOOKED! It was a bit tricky to follow the trail at times as it meandered in directions I would not have expected, but they kept the meanders well marked so as long as you were paying attention, you would not have missed any turns. There were also sections on fire roads that I appreciated for the brief reprieve from technical single tracks. Highly recommend this race! I do not know the organizers personally, but I could tell they are passionate about this race and cared a lot about every person who participated.
Pro Tips for First-Time Racers
Hydration and fueling is necessary since there is only one aid station at the half way point. Take care on the steep downhills because the dirt is loose. Beware of the fallen tree across the trail around mile 10.5.... it is in the flats but it spooked me enough that I fell down and slid out a bit. You can easily go around the tree, I just wasn't expecting it to be there at all!
