Race Report
This was my third year doing this race, second year on the podium. I was very happy that we were able to do the full course without weather impact this year. I was in the second heat, but still caught up to the lead pack, mostly because there was a missing volunteer at the last connection point and therefore we were left to reattach our carabiner device by ourselves and both myself and the woman in front of me accidentally put them on backwards which created a bottleneck point about halfway through that section where there wasn't enough space between the cable and the rock to easily move it through. Thankfully we managed to force it through with a lot of muscle, but I heard there were significant back-ups with the mid-pack and I can't help but wonder if it was related if others had similar issues. Regardless, this is an incredibly tough course for those competing in the front, and a great experience for those with patience who are okay going at the speed of the person in front of them. I highly recommend it if you're a fan of both trail running and rock climbing/mountaineering, but be prepared to pay a pretty penny because it's the most expensive individual race! That being said, the swag makes up for the cost, and you'll score some pretty nice items at bag pick-up.
Race Tips Summary
There are no aid stations, including no water, so be sure to bring a hydration vest - because you also don't want to have anything around your waist or in your hands that would interfere when you're on the via. And even though it's a short distance, it can take a while and it can be very hot, so you will want water, trust me! I also recommend wearing gloves or at least taping your hands because it can be easy to scrape your knuckles on the rock when moving through the via sections.
